Includes research with a main aim of investigating health and welfare economics.
Excludes clinical trials and health technology assessments with a mandatory economic evaluation component. In these cases, code for the therapeutic investigation only.

Economic evaluation is an essential component of trials and health technology assessments. However the main aim of these studies is usually to evaluate the effect or suitability of the intervention.
Unless one of the primary aims of a trial is health economics, just code for the therapy under investigation and not also to code 8.2 Health and welfare economics for the economic evaluation. The 8.2 Economics code should be used for research where those aspects are the main focus of the study.

Research coded within this code group should involve patients in the testing and evaluation of therapies or be in a clinical or applied setting.

Clinical trials in this category will often involve an economic evaluation and quality of life component. Unless one of the primary aims of these trials is assessing quality of life or health economics, just code for the therapy under investigation.
